Facilities
Our facilities are simple and off-grid.
There is a basic kitchen, composting toilet, rainwater tank, and a beautiful stream. There’s no electricity, tap water, or cell service. Navigating around the land involves walking over rough terrain and on forest tracks, while often meeting with prickly plant-beings like blackberry. The land currently suits those comfortable with wild camping and self-reliance.
Please contact us if you have accessibility needs — we’ll do what we can to support your visit.
What to bring:
- Tent, sleeping gear, warm layers
- Walking shoes suitable for rough ground
- Torch and batteries
- Food, cooking supplies, and drinking water - though note that for group retreats these may be provided
- Anything you need for practice or reflection
- Medications
- A spirit of simplicity and care for the land
The nearest café and showers are a 10-minute walk down the road https://www.nikaucave.co.nz/. A 20-minute forest walk leads to a stunning waterfall, and Raglan, Port Waikato, and Waingaro Hot Springs are within an hour’s drive.
Please note that retreats often include an invitation or encouragement to engage in practical work on the land. For this, we recommend bringing a change of old clothes, sturdy closed shoes, and work gloves if you have them.
